Esteemed neurologist and psychiatrist Viktor Frankl once said, “When we are no longer able to change a situation we are challenged to change ourselves.” His words resonate w/ my approach to counseling.
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Maryland and hold two national certifications including; Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors. I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling from The Johns Hopkins University, completed my practicum at the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women in Jessup, MD, and a clinical internship in the field of Substance Abuse/Chemical Dependency at Epoch Counseling Center in Baltimore County, MD where I co-facilitated their Intensive Outpatient program. I have provided services to a diverse clientele of all ages and walks of life including; young children, students, professionals, seniors, retired/active military personnel and first responders, i.e., EMTs, Paramedics, and Fire Fighters.
I am a culturally responsive clinician with a wide breadth of training & experience in both Mental Health & Substance Abuse. My approach to counseling is both insights oriented & geared towards promoting personal awareness and growth. In collaboration with the client, I work towards facilitating and supporting behavioral change utilizing an integrative approach based on the needs, strengths, and goals of the client. This integrative approach includes; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Client-Centered, Gestalt, Existential, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Play Therapy, and Sand Tray.
I have received specialized training in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy (NIRE), as well as Sand Tray Therapy from Dr. Eliana Gil of the Gil Institute for Trauma Recovery & Education. I am also a Certified Anger Management Specialist and a trained group leader for parenting groups utilizing the evidenced-based Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (S.T.E.P). I have provided services for children, adolescents, adults & seniors dealing with a myriad of issues including anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCPD, anger management, assessment/safety planning for domestic violence victims, self-esteem, life transitions, smoking cessation, substance abuse /chemical dependency.
I am a member of The American Counseling Association (ACA), The Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) and an inducted member of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) the Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International.
